…- - -…👠🧙‍♀️🪄 Somewhere between my heart and brain, there’s me…

In my younger days, it wasn’t always clear who was in charge— my heart or my brain.  The duties, the decisions, the oversight…..
all a bit tangled.
And yes,
they still battle from time to time.

Eventually , they had to duke it out in my gut,
at the gut level—really hash out what each had learned along the way.

The gut was the tie-breaker.

My heart? Took on the positive search,
always hopeful and
ready to believe again.

My brain? It became the cautious one—
or maybe more of an interrogator than a protector.

However, the roles are often flipped!

 But my gut-
that is where I had to pull it all together.
It’s where I mix every feeling, every doubt,
every spark of hope.
Even when my heart and brain were tossing in fire and ice,
my gut was the one that had to cook up the courage.

The debate was live….
no dress rehearsal….
no cut and no roll again,
no starting  from the beginning.  Could it be that my gut was my internal mediator,
or  maybe the judge all along?

Along the road of potholes…..

Wizard of oz, the annual event we marked the calendar.
Hard to believe there was a time before streaming,
smart tv, Roku,
even before the VCR!
It came on once a year, and it was a big deal,
like it was magical, because it was.

We all know the characters in this movie that traveled in search of the wizard with Dorehty;
the Tin man in need of a heart,
the Scarecrow in need of a brain,
and the Cowardly lion in need of courage.

Well, I decided to cast a vision to my main characters in my story.
It’s pretty easy to guess who’s casted for each roll.

My brain, my heart , my gut,  traveling side by side along the road of potholes
gaining experience along the way in search of the wizard.

All of them journeying through life within me,
until with a click of my heels
I realize, there’s no place like home.

Because in the end,
It’s the people we travel alongside on this journey of life who make it feel like home.  And the wizard?  It’s the wisdom that wakes us up to see we had everything within us all along.

What’s the lesson?
There’s no place like home.
It’s the people that make it home.
The people who are on this journey of life with us.
Realizing we had everything within us to begin with, the brains, heart and courage.
